Centerville Police Chief Shanon Irwin said he’s satisfied with data included about his department in the 2023 Crime in Tennessee report.
“It shows were out there being aggressive toward drugs and DUI,” said the Centerville chief, who works around his treatment schedule for cancer. “They’re out there doing their job.”
A pickleball court will be built at Centerville RiverPark by Bylers Construction, which will cover the cost. Aldermen approved the gift at last Tuesday’s board meeting. Mayor Gary Jacobs said company owner Mikie Byler approached him, saying he wanted to build the facility and donate it to the town. One court will be created. Jacobs said the new recreation feature would be built adjacent to the basketball courts, though farther down toward the river, which is a higher spot.
The National Banana Pudding Festival is in line to receive a $10,000 grant from the county Legislative Body.
The Centerville Volunteer Fire Department will build a facility behind its main fire hall to host all of the water rescue equipment it has been housing, much of it for county responders.
Fire Chief Al Baltz said the $25,000 project will include $22,000 from the Fire Chiefs Association, which received a $150,000 allocation this year from the Legislative Body.

Those traveling to the 15th National Banana Pudding Festival will see two changes this year: a shuttle bus system and a new traffic pattern.
Both are designed to cut down on the long lines that faced attendees at last year’s event, being held again this year at the Hickman County Ag Pavilion and Fairgrounds on October 5 and 6.
The Centerville Police Department reported the following matters in recent days, according to reports held by the department:
— On August 22, John Porter reported an estimated $15,000 in damage to his 1995 Peterbilt vehicle. According to Officer Cole Parks’ report, the vehicle had been hit by another on its driver’s side, causing the hood to be bent out and the grill damaged.
— On August 27, Michael Wilemon, 49, of Nunnelly, was arrested and charged with evading arrest, driving while his license was revoked and trespassing. According to Officer Kolbi Reed’s report, he saw a Chevy pick-up failing to maintain its lane on Highway 48 North and sought to stop it, though the driver ignored his signals initially.
