These are the primary duties of the Payroll / HR Office:
Check Writing. Writing the checks to pay the city’s bills after they have been properly coded for the correct fund by the City Recorder and processed in the business office. Seven departments require the individual tracking of all payments and files.
Payable Files. Maintaining the files for all payable actions.
Time Sheets. Processing weekly timesheets submitted by each employee for the office to calculate the pay for the biweekly paychecks. The police and dispatchers require special tracking of holidays when they must work and for overtime and compensatory time off.
Payroll. Managing the payroll for about 125 employees, which includes the volunteer fire department. There are about 62 full-time employees to pay.
Health Insurance. Managing the city's health insurance programs and contributions to each employee's plan as well as reporting requirements by the Affordable Care Act.
Retirement Plans. Managing the city's part of retirement programs, 401K plans, and 457 plans. The mayor has a separate retirement program.
Fund Accountability. Transmitting funds from bank accounts to cover all checks paid.
Monthly Reports. Preparing monthly reports for the Census Bureau and other government entities.
Drug Testing. Tracking the results of drug testing.
An opportunity to provide public comments at all regular and special-called meetings of the Town of Centerville Town Council will be made available to citizens of the Town of Centerville, Tennnessee who attend the meeting and indicate on the sign-in sheet provided at the entrance to said meeting said citizen’s desire to provide public comments before the commencement of the meeting. The procedures to be followed and the opportunity to provide public comments are more particularly set forth in the procedures adopted by the Town Council Resolution 2023-07, a copy of which is available on the website maintained by the Town of Centerville, Tennessee.
