We know you will want to attend some of our own favorites right here in Centerville. So if you are coming for a day or a week, determining how long to stay may be the most difficult part of the discussion. So start by
Howdee! We're just so proud to be here! That's the spirit of one of Centerville's most famous residents: Minnie Pearl, or Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, as she was known here.
Centerville is an old-fashioned town. Established on a hill above the Duck River in 1823, its rock walls, narrow streets, old houses, and town square preserve the traditions of a tight-knit community that is friendly and welcoming to visitors and newcomers. There are no traffic jams, little to no road rage, and no big box stores. See what else we have and what we don't have.
We have an unspoiled outdoors, beautiful creeks and rivers, and a local history that needs to be explored.
Belong Here
Move here, start a business, raise a family, support a responsive school system, belong to one of many churches, get involved in the community, join the Chamber of Commerce, and put down some roots. The Chamber of Commerce, civic clubs, non-profit organizations, and local government boards and commissions will give you a sense of belonging and purpose in this community.
Banana Pudding Festival
The Chamber will give you plenty to get involved with, but if that's not enough, there's always the annual Banana Pudding Festival. You might even spot a Minnie Pearl lookalike in the crowd.
Grow With Us
Hickman County has two school systems. The Centerville Elementary and Intermediate schools are located below the hill of the original city limits. The Hickman County Middle School and the Hickman County High School are north of the Duck River, about two miles from downtown. The other county systems are located northeast of Centerville in the Bon Aqua/Lyles area.
