The Centerville Volunteer Fire Department will build a facility behind its main fire hall to host all of the water rescue equipment it has been housing, much of it for county responders.
Fire Chief Al Baltz said the $25,000 project will include $22,000 from the Fire Chiefs Association, which received a $150,000 allocation this year from the Legislative Body.
As approved last Tuesday by aldermen, the town will chip in about $3,000.
Baltz told the Centerville board that Fire Hall 1 now holds four rescue boats, two trailers and other equipment for water rescues. Providing a space dedicated to that equipment will allow the Centerville department to once again put all of its equipment under roof.
The Centerville department counts 24 responders who are trained to respond to water rescues. That, Baltz said, is six full teams. Some of those responders work exclusively on water work, though all are also trained for fire duty, he said.
The 60-by-18-foot space storage structure will be built behind the fire hall.
