Three ordinances received unanimous final approval at the November 12 meeting of the Centerville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
Ordinance 896 allows three retail package liquor stores to operate in Centerville; previous regulation allowed two.
“This does not guarantee a third store,” Mayor Gary Jacobs said of the legislation.
The owner of Gulf Express, on Highway 50 East, asked for the expansion.
Ordinance 897 adds regulations meat processing facilities would have to meet if they want to come to Centerville.
“It just provides regulations if somebody wants to come in to have (a meat processing facility),” Building Inspector Josie Blystad said. “We’re not encouraging people to come in, we’re just providing strict guidelines that they can meet if they choose to do one in the heaviest industrial district.”
Ordinance 898 rezoned property at 400 Barber Circle from an R1 low-density residential district, to an R4 high-density residential district.
Two resolutions also earned unanimous approval:
Resolution 2024-34 authorizes the town to sell items as “surplus property.” They include nine vehicles from the police department and a compactor truck from the Public Works Department.
Resolution 2024-35 purchases pipe and materials to replace 3,000 feet of failing water pipe in the Shady Grove pump line for $80,000.
“This line has been a thorn in our side for years,” Jacobs said. “A lot of it’s from pipe that has deteriorated and wasn’t designed to be placed where it was placed.”
Jacobs said the Shady Grove tank has been leaking as a result.
The meeting lasted 21 minutes. Alderman Tom Meador was absent.
