The Centerville Volunteer Fire Department, the East Hickman Volunteer Fire Department and the Hickman County Rescue Squad are among 245 departments awarded grants through the state’s Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program.

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance did not announce amounts.

Centerville Volunteer Fire will purchase 10 sets of turnout gear with its grant.

East Hickman Volunteer will buy five new air packs to replace outdated ones.

“We greatly appreciate the state offering this program to help us protect our community and our firefighters,” said EHVFD Chief Kevin Baxter.

The Rescue Squad will purchase equipment.

The state program provides grant money to volunteer fire departments to purchase equipment and help meet local matching requirements for federal based equipment grants.
