Approval of a bid this week will allow the second part of Centerville’s Defeated Creek sewer basin rehabilitation project to commence. Mayor Gary Jacobs said he is hopeful that work can be completed this summer. That should allow the lifting of a self-imposed moratorium on the addition of new customers.
Luttrell Construction is the low bidder, at $1.081 million. Portland Utilities was the other bidder at $1.6 million, town Recorder June Horner said. Available funds amount to $1.05 million, Jacobs said The town will make up the difference.
The Board of Aldermen will be asked to approve the low bid when it meets Tuesday at 7 in City Hall. Jacobs said this second, and final, phase “is nowhere near as involved” as the first phase, with a focus on residential areas in the Fairfield area.
