Centerville’s mayor said he will recommend a new police chief to the Board of Aldermen when it meets next Tuesday. “We have people who are qualified to step into the role,” said Gary Jacobs. “Our service to the community will not have any interruption.”
Shanon Irwin died March 19 after more than a year of battling liver and pancreatic cancer. He served as chief since 2012, part of his 27 years of service to the department.
Danny Roberts is the assistant police chief, serving in that role for six years. He has handled many of the chief’s duties since Chief Irwin’s illness. Should Roberts become chief, his slot would become vacant. Jacobs indicated he favored promotions of officers within the department to handle leadership vacancies.
